Joanna Turland has had three solo shows to date and held her first international solo show ‘Curious tales’ with Steingast Gallery in Vienna, Austria 2023.

The Artist works with symbols and metaphor to inform the allegory of her work. The paintings are woven with a deep personal mythology incorporating both her imagined and material world. Portraits are mixed with archetypes, imagined spaces with the material. The Artist is concerned with intuition and scaling the depths of the unconscious psyche. Through the language of paint and an intuitive approach the Artist tells evocative and compelling stories about her life and personal lore.

"The work reflects my life in an accommodating and open way as I use personal experiences to fuel the work, often addressing issues such as mental illness and feminism. Alongside portraiture, I use psychological spaces and symbolism within the work to create a rich substance of events. Animals are often present as representations of emotional spaces and vulnerabilities." - Joanna Turland
