EMILY BROOKS MILLAR
Emily Brooks Millar (b. 1998) is a visual artist based in Glasgow, Scotland. The Artist work is a blend of mixed media, primarily using acrylics, oils, and crayons. The child-like feel within her pieces allows for a sense of creepiness and exploration that invites viewers into a space where they can freely share their thoughts.
Emily's work begins with extensive writing and research in her sketchbook, with the text guiding the visual creation that follows. Her creative process is rooted in bright, bold colours, both approachable and translatable.
Morality is the thread which runs through all of Emily's work. Having grown up in a Catholic family and experienced a near-death incident in her early 20s, she constantly grapples with questions of right and wrong, and why we hold certain beliefs. This theme of morality is universal and serves as a gateway for people to learn about each other. She delves into the facades we create, the existential questions we face, and our ultimate responsibility for self-improvement.

ARTIST STATEMENT
"The work takes flight from both extensive interviews and the nuances of everyday conversation. Comedy, albeit dark, is essential in opening a dialogue with the audience, allowing divisive and unifying opinions to emerge. Animals appear often due to the satirical nature of the pieces, projecting cartoon-like violence and parallels with humankind." - Emily Brooks Millar
